Carson Cottage Photo Studio Rules
Hood College Photo Studio
Usage rules
Please remember that the Photo Studio is a shared studio for all students and faculty in the arts and communication departments at Hood College. If everyone can follow a few simple rules, our user experiences will be greatly enhanced.
Rules
1. Everyone needs to sign in on the book on the table by the front door. Briefly write down what equipment you used and any issues you might have had during your session.
2. No equipment should be removed from the photo studio without first consulting a member of the faculty.
3. There is a new Google Calendar that has been created so you can schedule your photo session. Use the calendar to schedule class sessions and individual sessions. All student users, as well as faculty, should schedule their sessions. This will help with double bookings.
4. Be safe when using light stands. Tuck all cords under light stand legs to prevent lights from accidently tipping over if someone trips on a cord.
5. When using the boom light stand, always place a sand bag on the bottom of the stand to prevent tipping.
6. The Lowell lights are hot. Don’t burn yourself or place the lights on the floor, near any cloth or cardboard.
7. After you are done with your session, make sure that all lights are turned off and power is dialed down to minimum output.
8. Unplug all cords, extension cords and power strips from wall sockets when done with your session.
9. Coil up all cords and secure them to the light or the light stand when done. Please do not leave cords lying loose on the floor.
10. Inform Prof. Jacobsen ASAP if you blow a bulb or if a piece of equipment gets broken. Accidents happen, you will not be grounded if something breaks. This is important, if a light blows it needs to be replaced ASAP. This is for the benefit of other users.
11. If we need something, or more of something, let Tim or Jackie know. This would include things like tape, spray mount, blades, clips, paper towels, etc. And if you have suggestions for any equipment, please inform us.
12. Take care when using the Savage paper backgrounds. Do your best not to tear or rip them. After using a background, put in back in the cylinder that you got it from.
13. If you need or what a lighting set up left alone, leave a note by the sign in book by the front door. It is understandable that you may need extra time to complete a session. Remember though, others may need the lights and equipment for their own shoot.
14. Make sure your model’s shoes, and your shoes as well, are clean when walking across the seamless cloth backgrounds. The white gets dirty very easily and is very hard to wash.
15. Do not leave ceramic pieces on the floor. If you are not removing your pieces from the studio, put them on a table, out of the way, so someone does not have to move them for you.
16. Throw your trash in the garbage or pack it out with you. This goes for scrap pieces of mat board and any packing materials.
17. If a piece of matt board is big enough to be reused, place it on the scrap pile on the desk near the corner.
18. Do not throw mat cutting blades or Exacto blades directly into a trashcan. Instead, tape up the blade first. This will prevent anyone from slicing their finger if they reach into the trash for something or when facilities personnel are emptying the trash.
19. Turn off all room lights and the porch light when exiting.
20. If you borrowed a key from security to get into the studio, return it when you are done.
21. Do not leave the studio unlocked.
